Welcome
The web-site "Ancestors on-line" takes it's point of departure in the documentary film "Ancestors on-line - a journey into African memory".
"Ancestors on-line" tells the story about Jimmy and Busi, who live in Zimbabwe. They both work with theatre and music. They go on a tour of Zimbabwe to research and gain inspiration for a performance about traditional and modern Zimbabwe. Along the way, they meet chiefs, traditional healers, gays, a spiritual medium and a dream interpreter. They visit Busi's grandfather in the rural areas and take part in a ceremony for the dead.
It is a journey of faith, hope and love into a country where the ancestors refuse to be forgotten.
Do you believe in God or ancestral spirits?
Would you agree to pay bride price - in the form of cellular phones or money?
Should you follow your heart or do what the family expects of you? Are you the maker of your own fortune, or ARE you because of your relations to other people?
These are some of the questions that occupy the two young characters.
You can read more about Jimmy and Busi, their family members and the people they meet during their journey under the menu "People". You can find more about the issues they discuss under the menu "Themes".
The film is a co-production between Capricorn Video Unit in Zimbabwe and SPOR MEDIA in Denmark.
It was shot in Zimbabwe in the autumn of 1999. The Danish premiere took place in the National Museum in Copenhagen in September 2000, and the premiere in Zimbabwe was held in Harare in 2002. You can read more about the co-operation between the two directors under the menu "the film".
A 58.30 min. English version of the film is distributed by SPOR MEDIA.
Prudence Uriri and Capricorn Video Unit in Zimbabwe distribute a 5 times 30-min. series based on the same material.
Best Wishes
