In Bolivia, violence against women – and violence in the family in general – is a problem that many people find insurmountable.

For many years, the country’s government, with the support of international organizations, has supported initiatives that help battered women know their rights.

But what if you teach new generations that violence cannot be a solution and that there are structural conditions in society that maintain ‘machismo’ and the perception that women are worth less than men. With the theatre, Teatro Trono* achieves new realizations – both for the many young people in the organization and for all those who see their performances.

*Teatro Trono is a cultural project for children and young people in Bolivia’s second largest city El Alto in the highlands near the government city La Paz. El Alto is mainly inhabited by Bolivia’s indigenous population, who have moved here from rural areas and former mining towns. Spor Media and Teatro Trono have collaborated since 2004 on several activities including Global Kids visits, Miradas Juveniles, Una vida sin violencia and Global Stay Tours.
