Teatro Trono

A poetic cinematic description of Teatro Trono* and a kaleidoscopic overview of its many activities,
cultural organization has set in motion since its inception in 1989.

It all began when actor and sociologist Iván Nogales Bazan (†2019) gathered a group of street children to create street theater. They toured Europe and earned enough money to build a colorful 7-story cultural center made from recycled materials in the Ciudad Satélite district of El Alto.
Since then, it has become a range of cultural offerings in theater, dance, music, film and more.

The film has received funding from the EU.

*Teatro Trono is a cultural project for children and young people in Bolivia’s second largest city El Alto in the highlands near the government city La Paz. El Alto is mainly inhabited by Bolivia’s indigenous population, who have moved here from rural areas and former mining towns. Spor Media and Teatro Trono have collaborated since 2004 on several activities including Global Kids visits, Miradas Juveniles, Una vida sin violencia and Global Stay Tours.
